The Eucharist - CD

The CD on the Eucharist, produced by the Limerick Diocese, and launched by Senator Ronan Mullen at the Conference on the Eucharist held at Mary Immaculate College, has been created in preparation for the 2012 Eucharistic Congress and it is hoped that this will help people understand more about the Sacrifice of the Mass.

The CD is free, though a non-obligatory donation would be appreciated to cover costs - it will be available at the Churches in the Diocese of Limerick. Spread the word.

For the use of their music, a special thanks to:

2012 Padre Pio Pilgrimage to Padua, Assisi, & San Giovanni Rotondo

2012 Padre Pio Pilgrimage

Padre Pio Pilgrimage to Padua, Assisi & San Giovanni Rotondo

(Visiting Shrines of 7 Capuchin & Franciscan Saints)

Led by Fr John Mockler

02 October  ~  7 nights

€819 inc.

DAY 1: Tuesday, 02 October
Depart Dublin at 07:20a.m. for our flight to Venice. On arrival, our coach will take us to Padua where we will stay in the Hotel Giotto for 1 night with breakfast and an evening meal.

Padua is an old university town with an illustrious past. Pilgrims come here from all over the world to venerate St Anthony, the Franciscan hermit. Born in Lisbon in 1195, Anthony joined the Franciscan Order when he was 25. He is famous for his preaching and as an extraordinary miracle worker. St Anthony died in Padua at the age of 36 and the magnificent Basilica di Sant'Antonio holds his tomb and relics.

Because St Anthony was buried on a Tuesday (and many miracles accompanied his funeral), Tuesday is a special day to honour him and many pray a novena to him on thirteen consecutive Tuesdays.

Whilst in Padua, we also visit the tomb of St Leopold Mandić, who is known as the Saint of Confessional - a man for our time.

DAY 2: Wednesday, 03 October
We Depart Padua for Assisi, visiting Loreto en route. According to tradition, the house of Nazareth in which Our Lady lived at the time of the Annunciation, now stands in Loreto. A fifteenth century basilica contains the house, encased in a marble shrine beneath its dome.

We continue on to Assisi where we will stay for 3 nights in the Porziuncola hotel with dinner each evening. We visit the Porziuncola, the little chapel located within the Basilica of St. Mary of the Angels. St. Francis restored several ruined Churches including the Porziuncola. This little Chapel was much loved by St Francis and became the cradle of the Franciscan Order. St Francis died in his cell near the Porziuncola in October 1226 and from that moment on the Porziuncola has never been abandoned by the friars.

DAY 3: Thursday, 04 October
Today we celebrate the Feast of St Francis. We visit the impressive 13th century Basilica of St Francis and also the Basilica of St Clare.

Day 4: Friday, 05 October
Today we visit Citta di Castello and the shrine of the Capuchin nun, St Veronica Giuliani. St Veronica was a mystic who received the Stigmata. We also visit the shrine of Blessed Angela of Foligno. We return to Assisi for dinner and an overnight stay.

Day 5: Saturday, 06 October
Depart Assisi for San Giovanni, stopping in Cascia on the way. Cascia owes its fame to St Rita, the patron Saint of hopeless cases. We visit the monastery where St Rita lived as an Augustinian Nun for 40 years. We also visit the Basilica, which houses the incorrupt body of the Saint. We continue on to San Giovanni Rotondo, where we stay in Centro di Spiritualità Padre Pio (the Centre of Padre Pio’s Spirituality) for 3 nights with Breakfast, lunch and dinner each day.

DAY 6: Sunday, 07 October
This morning we have our introduction to San Giovanni. We visit the English Office where we will hear about the incredible life of St Pio.

We also the visit main sights in San Giovanni including the Friary, the cell where Saint Pio lived and died, the Crucifix before which Saint Pio received the Stigmata, the old and new Churches and the Way of the Cross.

In the afternoon, we visit the shrine of Mont Sant'Angelo where Archangel Michael appeared in the 5th Century. This shrine has been an important pilgrimage site over the centuries; many Saints; Popes and Emperors have visited the cave to pray to ask for St Michael’s protection, among them St Francis, St Pio and Blessed John Paul II. We celebrate Mass there.

DAY 7: Monday, 08 October
Today, our last day, we visit more places associated with the life of St Pio, including the tomb of St Pio.

Day 8: Tuesday, 09 October
Morning departure from San Giovanni to Naples, for our return flight to Dublin, arriving in Dublin at approximately 2.55p.m.
